MAKE THINGS BETTER!
During challenging times it’s easy to be aggravated and irritable. We humans thrive on predictability and control, so it’s not surprising that many of us are stressed. So often, it’s the people closest to us, our families, that feel the brunt of our frustration. We may hurt the people we love. So now, more than ever, is a good time to take note of the positive things in our life and help others to do the same.
It’s true that we have no control over how others respond to this dilemma, but we do have complete control over how we respond. Instead of dwelling on other’s attitudes and behaviors, focus on your own and take note of the power inherent in adjusting to your environment. To put this in perspective think about this….when the winter season brings cold, we respond by adjusting what we wear to keep ourselves warm. If we continue to wear shorts and a t-shirt in below freezing temperatures we put our health in danger. We do this without worry or frustration.
The same general principle applies to our current situation with Covid, but instead of protecting ourselves from the cold, we protect ourselves from disease. Do what is required to keep yourself safe – wash your hands, wear a mask, stay at home, whatever you feel appropriate, without fretting or frustration. This will help you regain your sense of control and reduce your stress.
Another powerful way to help you, and your family, to feel strong and positive is focusing on gratitude. We all have a choice to dwell on the positive or the negative. Turn your attention to the good things. A home, supportive friends and family, loving pets, the ability to work – the “little” things that we take for granted are often the most important. Looking for ways to help others also reminds us of the power we have to make a positive difference.
In every situation, by our actions and attitude, we can either make things better or worse. Always choose to make your world better.
