DON’T GET ANGRY…..DO SOMETHING!
I confess, I could get very angry at my children when they would mess up. Now, depending on the offense, that might not be such a terrible thing, but it becomes a problem when the emotion gets in the way of developing a rational solution.
There is an old saying that goes: “He who makes you angry, controls you.” It is important that your children know that they don’t have the power to control you. If they become aware that they can push your buttons, they will! I commonly tell parents to think of themselves as a huge oak tree providing shade and shelter, but, at the same time, is solid and unmovable.
Remember that emotion commonly prevents rational thought. Spend your energy implementing your disciplinary plan and helping your to child come up with a solution. The result is one less thing to get angry about – problem solved!
