PRAISE MORE / CRITICIZE LESS
It is a fact that humans respond better to praise than to criticism. Any good parenting program will tell you the best way to change your child’s behavior is to reward good behavior. Unfortunately, many parents don’t operate that way.
When children are behaving appropriately, parents generally don’t say anything. Often, the only time some children get parental interaction is when they misbehave. I have seen countless times children who misbehave just to get some type of attention from their parents. In many children’s minds, negative attention is better than no attention.
Be aware of how often you praise and reward good behavior versus how often you admonish poor behavior.
